Two women have been charged over a number of burglaries in Launceston, including the theft of more than $17,000 worth of tools and equipment from a Charles Street business.
The 39-year-old from Goodwood and 34-year-old from North Hobart were arrested after the tools were allegedly stolen on Monday night.
Police said the pair also stole a handbag from a business in Launceston on Tuesday night and used cards found inside to make purchases across the city.
They then reportedly used the stolen cards to pay for accommodation at a Prospect hotel, where they were tracked down and arrested.
“During the arrest, police located a large quantity of tools and equipment, confirmed as being stolen from the Charles Street business the day prior,” a spokesperson said.
The older woman is also facing charges related to a previous burglary at a Hobart hotel, where she allegedly stole cash, keys and other property.
She has been charged with burglary, stealing, aggravated burglary, attempted computer-related fraud, possession of stolen property and computer-related fraud.
The younger woman is facing a charge of unlawful possession of property and providing a false name.
Both will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court next month.
