Wynyard man pleads not guilty to attempted murder over alleged shooting

A Wynyard man has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder after allegedly shooting another man in the stomach in Tasmania’s north-west earlier this year.

Brady Christopher Oates, 32, appeared via video link from custody in the Burnie Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He denied a string of charges including attempted murder, wounding, possessing a shortened firearm, aggravated burglary and stealing.

Police allege Oates shot a 37-year-old man at a property on Sandpiper Road in Wynyard shortly after 3pm on May 13.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition with a single gunshot wound from a small calibre rifle.

Police arrested Oates the following day after a 22-hour operation involving detectives and specialist resources.

Oates has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear in the Supreme Court on September 2.
