You Am I and Jet will headline the opening night of Festivale 2027, as Launceston’s biggest summer event marks its 40th anniversary.
The three-day food, wine and music festival returns to City Park from January 29 to 31.
Festivale chairman David Dunn said he and the committee were excited about the calibre of the lineup.
“The Friday night of Festivale’s certainly always been more known as a bit of a party night,” he told Pulse.
“Saturday, you know, people come along and they’re there for, you know, extended periods, so they like to have some good entertainment to finish the night off. And then Sunday’s more the laid back.”
You Am I, fronted by songwriter and guitarist Tim Rogers, formed in 1989 and are the first Australian band to have released three successive albums that each debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart: Hi Fi Way, Hourly, Daily and #4 Record.
Melbourne rockers Jet are best known for Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Look What You’ve Done and Rollover DJ.
Something For Kate and The Cat Empire will perform on the Saturday night.
The John Butler Trio will close out the headline entertainment on Sunday afternoon, which Dunn said would be his personal highlight.
“I think John Butler’s just gonna be a really nice way to, to wind out what’s gonna be a fairly frantic weekend for the committee,” he said.
Celebrity chef Adam Liaw will present five one-hour cooking demonstrations alongside local chefs from across the state.
Dunn said having someone of that calibre in the park would showcase what he called “the incredible produce that we’ve got in Tassie”.
Comedian Celia Pacquola will headline the Fresh Comedy stage on the Friday night.
There will be 70 stallholders at the 2027 event, chosen from more than 140 applicants.
Sunday will also feature family activities including face painting, laser tag and yoga for kids.
Festivale started in 1988 as a multicultural street party and has sold out for the last three years, drawing 10,000 people a day over the three days.
Dunn expects tickets to go even faster this time.
“The lineup seems to really have ticked boxes with people,” he said.
“So I really think that we’re going to see a sellout event early on, which will be great.”
He said the event could not grow much further because of the slope of City Park and the extra infrastructure bigger crowds would require.
“We don’t want to put any more strain on it than we already do,” he said.
