An investigation has been launched after a ‘vicious assault’ outside a pub in Southern Tasmania left a man with serious injuries over the weekend.
Police were called to the Cygnet Hotel, also known as the ‘Top Pub,’ at around 1am on Sunday morning in response to reports of a physical altercation.
The victim, a 20-year-old man from Lymington, was left with “significant head, facial and neck injuries” following what police described as an “unprovoked attack”.
He underwent surgery at the Royal Hobart Hospital shortly after the incident and is currently in the process of recovery at his home.
Investigators are now looking to identify a man who was pictured in footage at the Cygnet Hotel, as they believe he “may be able to assist” with enquiries.
Anyone with information on the incident or the identity of the man pictured is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
