Police are responding to an unfolding incident at the troubled Ashley Youth Detention Centre in Tasmania’s north after a “disturbance” broke out this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the centre around 4:30pm after two youths allegedly caused a disturbance, damaging items inside the facility as police worked to bring the situation under control.
In a statement released shortly before 7:30pm, Tasmania Police said the pair were “continuing to cause a disturbance within the facility” and had “damaged a number of items within a room within the complex”.
Police confirmed the youths were contained inside the facility and officers were working to manage the incident.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson said no other youths were involved and no injuries have been reported.
