Three youths will be proceeded against by Tasmania Police after deliberately setting a fire at a school yesterday afternoon.
Lilydale Fire Brigade was called to the Lilydale District School at around 5:35pm, where they extinguished a burning tree stump before it could cause further damage.
In addition to being charged under the Youth Justice Act 1997 for setting the fire, the youths are also being held responsible for other damages caused at the school.

Sergeant Gavin Chugg said that the police will continue to collaborate with the Tasmania Fire Service to prosecute individuals who intentionally start fires or light fires on days with total fire ban restrictions.
“If it weren’t for the swift action of fire crews, this could have spread to the surrounding grass areas or school buildings.”
