Duchess the Zebra has given birth to a new foal at Hobart’s Zoodoo Zoo.
The foal, born on Friday, October 13th, is “doing well” and “staying close to its proud mother, Duchess”, the Zoo say.
“Zebras have a gestation period of 11-13 months and a new born foal, although very small, their legs are almost as long as their mothers’ at birth,” according to Zoodoo.
“Zebra foals can stand on their own by the time they are about 15 minutes old and can run within an hour.”
In March 2019, Duchess, a second-time mother at the time, welcomed her second foal at the zoo and gave birth to her third offspring in February 2021.
The ‘early Christmas present’ comes as Zoodoo Zoo remains on the market, seeking offers over $3.75 million for the longstanding Hobart animal park.
