After five years of growing and caring for her waist-length hair, a 12-year-old Hobart girl has cut more than half of it off and generously donated it to charity.
Lylah Hammett raised over $1,400 in crucial funds for ‘Variety’s Hair with Heart’, a program managed by Variety that assists children who have lost their hair due to medical conditions, including alopecia and other rarer conditions, in acquiring wigs.
“Lylah’s compassion and kindness is inspiring,” Variety Tasmania CEO Mohammad Aldergham said.
“I encourage all Tasmanians to rally around Lylah and make a contribution.”

Riley, together with her mum Lauren, wanted to turn her hair into hope after being inspired by her stepsister’s battle with leukemia and her auntie’s courageous fight against brain cancer.
Variety say Lylah’s fundraising efforts will offer “much-needed assistance” to Tasmanian children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.
“Every donation brings us one step closer to a Tasmania where no children are left to fall through the gaps,” Aldergham said.
Anyone considering a back-to-school or work haircut is encouraged to consider signing up to fundraise and donating their hair to Hair with Heart.
