A 24-year-old has had his firearms licence suspended and 26 guns seized after police found ammunition improperly stored at his home.
Tasmania Police said the man’s southern Tasmania property was searched on Thursday in relation to other matters and during the search, officers found ammunition that was not stored in line with legal requirements.
Police seized 26 firearms, a large amount of ammunition and two firearm silencers.
The man’s firearms licence has been suspended while Tasmania Police Firearms Services carry out further inquiries.

Police said all licence holders are responsible for meeting safe storage rules at all times.
“Incorrect storage increases the risk of firearms and ammunition falling into the wrong hands, posing a serious risk to community safety,” a spokesperson said.

Anyone unsure of their storage obligations can find more information on the Tasmania Police Firearms Services website.
People aware of unlawful firearms in the community can contact police on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
