Marcus Vermey will become Parliamentary Secretary of Small Business and Community and Multicultural Affairs.

The government says running one fewer minister, along with staffing and overhead changes, will save more than $1 million.

Rockliff thanked each minister for taking on extra duties.

“We are getting on with the job of delivering for Tasmanians, including redeveloping hospitals, upgrading schools, improving road infrastructure and investing in the services our community needs,” he said.

“The world and our nation are facing turbulent times, which is why we are focussed on keeping our economy strong and supporting a caring community.”

The cabinet shake-up comes as Rockliff continues to face questions over the circumstances of Ogilvie’s resignation and the legal costs tied to her Supreme Court matter.

Both Labor and the Greens have been pushing Rockliff for more details on the costs.

Ogilvie stepped down as a minister on Saturday and will now sit on the backbench.

She was accused of misleading parliament over whether she was party to any Supreme Court proceedings.
