30 phone-addicted drivers have been snapped using their mobiles while driving around the Launceston CBD yesterday afternoon.
The operation, which was targeting inattentive drivers, saw another two drivers caught ignoring traffic lights and one behind the wheel without a seatbelt.
Officers also found six traffic related offences, with the sting catching a total of 39 drivers – something Acting Inspector Stuart Greenwood said was disappointing.
“Distraction is one of the fatal five contributors to serious and fatal crashes,” he said.
”A distracted driver places themselves, their passengers and other road users at risk of serious injury due to the increased likelihood of causing a crash.”
All drivers found using their mobile phones have picked up a $362 fine and 3 demerit points.
