32 people have been caught breaking Tasmanian marine safety and fisheries rules over the long weekend as part of a crackdown by authorities, with Marine Police patrolling the East Coast from Coles Bay to Orford and Eaglehawk Neck.
7 people were fined for taking sand flathead under 350 millimeters, despite recent changes to Flathead fishing rules, which dictate the size and quantity of catch permitted.
Another 7 people were caught for either taking undersized scallops or exceeding the allowable quantity, while inspections of recreational boat users revealed that 12 of them failed to meet the minimum safety requirements onboard.
3 people were also fined using or possessing crayfish pots in a closed area.
