42 social and affordable homes will soon be built on the site of the former Devonport Bowls and Croquet Club.
Homes Tasmania has appointed Fairbrother to deliver the $20.4 million Higgs Court development, just minutes from the Devonport CBD.
The project will feature a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes in two-storey townhouses and three-storey apartment buildings.
The homes will be rented to people on low to moderate incomes, with some reserved for older Tasmanians on the housing register.
Homes Tasmania said each had been “designed with comfort, accessibility and sustainability in mind” and would achieve a minimum seven-star energy rating.
The one-hectare site was rezoned for an 11-lot subdivision.
Six lots were released for private sale. Three have since sold, with one home already completed and occupied.
“The project is part of Homes Tasmania’s ongoing commitment to increasing the supply of social and affordable housing across the state,” a spokesperson said.
“The Higgs Court development features well-designed homes in well-located areas and will help more Tasmanians find a safe, secure place to call home while supporting the continued growth and vibrancy of the Devonport community.”
Construction will begin once the final approvals are secured.
