Two women will face court after police allegedly found almost a kilogram of ice and 53 grams of cocaine inside a vehicle that had disembarked the Spirit of Tasmania ferry in Devonport.
Officers from the Western Drugs and Firearms Unit spotted the “vehicle of interest” as it came off the ferry on Tuesday morning, police say.
The vehicle allegedly evaded police before it was tracked down a short time later at Moriarty, about 12 kilometres east of the terminal.
Two women from Risdon Vale, in Hobart’s northern suburbs, aged 22 and 28, were taken into custody without incident.
Police allege a search of the vehicle uncovered about 976 grams of crystal methylamphetamine and 53 grams of cocaine.

Detective Inspector Michelle Elmer said the seizure had stopped about 9,800 individual street deals from reaching the community.
“These are not only illegal substances, they are also dangerous and have the potential to bring significant harm to the Tasmanian community,” Elmer said.
“Tasmania Police will continue to target offenders who attempt to deal with illicit substances in Tasmania by conducting both targeted and random screening of persons transiting the state by sea and airports.”
The women have been charged with trafficking and driving offences.
They are due to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court today.
