A former Burnie mayor who lost his seat in the most recent local government elections has successfully regained it through a recount.

Alvwyn Boyd was elected to the council on Monday following the resignation of Steve Kons, who stepped down in September.

Boyd previously served on the council for 22 years, including a 12-year stint as mayor, before narrowly losing his seat in 2022.

He will now serve until the next council elections in 2026.

Kons cited a desire to pursue other projects as his reason for stepping down.
