Ambulance Tasmania say a “review” has been launched after footage emerged of an ambulance allegedly driving dangerously on the state’s east coast.
Video captured on Thursday morning and shared with Pulse shows the ambulance driving on the wrong side of the road at St Marys Pass in wet conditions.
In the footage, the ambulance is seen completely crossing the solid centre line multiple times and attempting to unsuccessfully overtake a campervan on a corner.
It did not have its lights or sirens on when the video was taken and was travelling at a slow pace.
In a brief statement to Pulse, an Ambulance Tasmania spokesperson acknowledged the incident.
“Ambulance Tasmania employees are required to comply with the Australian Road Rules while undertaking operational duties,” the spokesperson said.
“Following receipt of the footage, Ambulance Tasmania will undertake a review.”
The Tasmanian Road Rules stipulate that drivers must drive as near as practicable to the far left side of the road and must not cross any solid or double broken lines to overtake another vehicle.
Exemptions to the rules can apply for drivers of emergency vehicles if they are taking reasonable care and operating under lights and sirens.
