Andy 'Tubes' Taylor has been named the new sports presenter on 7NEWS Tasmania

Tasmanian sporting media identity Andy ‘Tubes’ Taylor has been named the new sports presenter on 7NEWS Tasmania, joining the station’s evening bulletin from May 25.

Taylor, a familiar voice in Tasmanian sport for more than a decade, will present sport Monday to Friday alongside news anchor Kim Millar during the 6pm bulletin.

He will also keep his breakfast radio gig on Triple M Hobart which he has held since 2022.

“Being a Tassie boy and a lover of sport, I’m really keen to share those Tasmanian sporting stories and work together with our excellent journalists at 7NEWS to bring those stories to Tasmanian families,” Taylor told Pulse.

He said balancing the two roles was his biggest consideration when the opportunity came up.

“Being a breakfast radio host, that’s my first and foremost priority, and then trying to balance that evening role, you know, with Kim Millar and Michael Maney over the next few weeks,” he said.

With his radio day starting at 5am and wrapping up around midday, Taylor said the gap before the 6pm bulletin would be spent with family.

He said he was particularly excited about the growth of women’s sport in Tasmania and the arrival of professional programs including the NBL, AFL, AFLW and NBLW.

“I just want to … help tell those stories about how we really are batting above our average when it comes to sports people in Tassie,” he said.

Taylor described himself as “just a boy from Burnie with a heart of gold”.

The appointment comes as 7NEWS Tasmania undergoes significant changes behind the scenes.

The station confirmed last month it would shift its nightly bulletin from Launceston to a Hobart studio, ending more than 60 years of broadcasts from the northern city.

Technical roles including bulletin direction and studio production will move to Seven’s Canberra hub.

A Seven spokesperson said the Hobart studio became available after the network’s merger with Southern Cross Austereo, the owner of Hobart’s Hit100.9 and Triple M.

“Using this facility is the smart and sustainable choice for the business, allowing us to invest our resources into what matters most: the journalism and the people who deliver it,” the spokesperson told Pulse last month.

Journalist and camera operator numbers across Tasmania would remain unchanged.

Millar, who has led the 6pm bulletin for more than six years, will commute from Launceston to Hobart to present Monday to Thursday.

Weekend presenter Michael Maney has relocated to Hobart and will take on an expanded role covering Thursday to Sunday.

The station has changed hands twice in the past year, with Seven West Media buying it from Southern Cross Austereo for $3.75 million in May 2025 before the two companies merged in January this year.
