Arrest made after person reportedly seen wandering George Town streets with ‘modified toy firearm’

A man has been arrested after a person was reportedly seen wandering the streets of George Town with a firearm this morning.

Police say 000 callers reported seeing an armed person in the area of Bathurst Street in the town’s north on Friday.

Officers attended the scene and arrested the alleged offender, a 25-year-old man, at a private residence nearby.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered a “modified toy firearm” at the property, leading to the man being charged with various offences in connection with the “isolated incident”.

Police say no one was injured and the man will appear in the Launceston Magistrate Court at the end of May.
