Tasmania’s beloved Big Spud is once again standing tall over the Bass Highway, after it was knocked down by strong winds last October.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff, who helped his dad Rick Rockliff build and erect the big potato some 40 years ago, said the spud is “in his treasured possie at the gateway to the North West”.

“We owe a huge deal of gratitude to Robbie and Kevin for putting all the work into the restoration,” Rockliff said.

“We are chuffed to see his big smile once again in the heart of Sassafras.”

Creator Rick Rockliff passed away in late November after a battle with cancer.
