“We are delighted to connect the Sunny Coast and Launnie with direct low-cost air travel allowing customers to save time and money by avoiding lengthy road trips or metro city transfers and instead be able to maximise their holiday,” CEO Tim Jordan said.

“Our Bonza legends are humbled by the ongoing community support from both the Sunshine Coast and Launceston. This service is great news for travellers and for local tourism and hospitality industries.”

This route marks the second from Launceston Airport and the airline’s 12th overall.

Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Chris Mills said the Sunshine Coast and Tasmania have never been directly connected by air before and he was excited to be making history.

“The new direct service provides a significant boost to both regions, connecting our two tourism destinations for the very first time,” Mills said.

“It will open up a new market for tourism operators here on the Sunshine Coast, with Tasmanians now having direct access to our pristine beaches, incredible restaurants and unique experiences.”

Bonza launched to a turbulent start, with a lack of planes and frequent cancellations, leaving travellers on their initial Launceston to Gold Coast route lucky to get off the ground.
