The owners of a cheese and wine house in Tasmania’s Southern Midlands have closed the business for good after four years.

Brad Williams and Nathan McGiveron, the duo behind The Imbibers in Oatlands, took to social media on Wednesday to announce the sad news.

“It has been a journey over the last 4+ years and we are grateful to have made such wonderful friends amongst our supporters, locals, visitors and suppliers,” they said.

“We are proud to have showcased the wonderful produce of the local region and filled a gap in the Oatlands market, which we know is going to be missed.”

The building that housed The Imbibers will be put on the market, leaving hope that someone else will fill the space.

“We are offering a refund on any unused gift vouchers, please [email us] and we will arrange a refund via bank transfer,” the owners said.

The Imbibers was a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a range of local wines, beers and spirits, alongside cheese platters, antipasto and sweet treats.

Locals have thanked the pair for their “love and creativity” and for creating the “coolest little business in town”.

“May someone else continue your legacy. And I bet there are already new ideas in the ether for you both,” one person wrote.

The small town has seen the opening of several new food and drink venues in recent years, including Bunch Oatlands and the revamped Kentish Hotel.
