Brisbane blend beats 133 entries to win Royal Tasmanian coffee award

Coffee Mentality's filter blend Olfactory was named champion coffee

Tasmanian coffee roasters have gone head-to-head against some of Australia’s best producers, with a Brisbane blend claiming the top prize at the 2026 Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards.

Brisbane roaster Coffee Mentality took out the champion coffee title, with its filter specialty blend Olfactory judged the best of 133 entries from across Australia.

Melbourne-based Griffiths Bros Coffee Roasters earned reserve champion for its Wellspring Organic espresso blend.

The awards were judged at Moonah’s Lottie Lane Coffee Roasters, with around 20% of entries coming from Tasmanian roasters.

Local and interstate judges assessed entries in the 2026 coffee awards

Carolyn Petkovich, food and wine events manager for the awards, said the standard of entries this year was remarkable.

“The quality of entries in this year’s Coffee Awards was exceptional, with outstanding exhibits received from across Australia,” she said.

A total of 133 entries from across Australia were judged

Petkovich said it was “fantastic to see local roasters represented alongside some of the nation’s best coffee producers.”

“We saw more Medal Awards being given this year than is any previous years, which speaks directly to the quality of entries this year,” she said.

The coffee awards are one of several judging rounds held as part of the Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards, which run from April to September.

Other categories include baked goods, preserves, chocolate and confectionery, honey, tea and tisanes, cheese and dairy products, seafood and pantry items.

Established in 1995, the awards are among Australia’s longest-running fine food competitions, bringing together local and interstate judges to assess producers from across the country.
