Campers on holiday in Tasmania’s north have been targeted by thieves who allegedly made off with thousands of dollars worth of property overnight.
E-mountain bikes and valuable jewellery were stolen from a campsite in Port Sorell and a nearby residence in Shearwater during two reported incidents overnight.
Police say two of the several stolen bikes, estimated to be both worth around $12,000, were recovered from a home in Devonport today.
Detective Acting Inspector Alex Bonde said investigations were still ongoing after a man was arrested and subsequently “unconditionally released” this morning.
“Police want to hear from anyone who may have knowledge of the thefts, and we are particularly interested in information about a blue Giant dual suspension mountain bike that remains outstanding,” he said.
“Anyone with information or CCTV footage of any suspicious activity in the Port Sorell or Shearwater areas overnight is asked to contact police.”
“We encourage everyone to remain vigilant in the security of their homes and belongings.”
