A man in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital after being shot during a targeted attack at a Claremont home early this morning.
Police were called to an address on Curlew Parade around 5am after reports that two people had entered the residence and assaulted the occupants.
The man was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he remains in a serious condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the hip.
A woman in her 20s was also injured in the attack.
She was struck with the side of an axe a number of times but did not require hospitalisation.
Police believe the incident was targeted and that all parties involved are known to each other.
Investigations are ongoing and officers are following a specific line of inquiry to locate the offenders believed to have been involved.
