McDonald’s is planning to spend over $5 million on a major upgrade of its Burnie restaurant, creating around 100 jobs during construction.
A McDonald’s Australia spokesperson told Pulse the investment is aiming to give customers the “best possible experience”.
It comes after the Burnie McDonald’s store has faced criticism on social media in recent months for its reported uncleanliness and understaffing.
The proposed upgrades will include a new dining room, terrace, McCafé and PlayPlace for families.
Solar panels, a heat recovery water system and LED lighting are also set to be installed in an attempt to reduce emissions and energy use.
The spokesperson said McDonald’s has been part of the Burnie community for over 32 years.
“We’re working through the development application process with Council and hope to deliver [improved facilities soon],” they said.
The project will reportedly create around 100 jobs during construction and is subject to council approval.
Burnie City Council Mayor Teeny Brumby says the reinvestment shows McDonald’s “ongoing commitment” to the region.
“Let’s hope they incorporate a huge indoor playground that far surpasses the one installed 10-15 years ago,” she wrote.
The Burnie McDonald’s resturant is owned by the same franchisee as all other McDonald’s stores in Tasmania’s north.
