Tasmanians are being asked to pull on their craziest socks and pick up an air guitar this month to raise money for research and patient care at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation’s Rock for the Royal campaign runs throughout October. Workplaces, schools, community groups, families and friends are being invited to take part.

Air guitar challenges, crazy sock fundraisers and rock-themed community events are among the ways people can get involved.

The foundation has set a goal of $50,000.

Foundation chief executive Stephanie Furler said the campaign was about having fun while supporting the hospital and the healthcare teams that care for thousands of Tasmanians.

“Almost every Tasmanian has a connection to the Royal, whether they have received care themselves or supported a family member or friend through treatment,” she said.

“Rock for the Royal is a chance for our community to have some fun, get creative and give back to the people who are there for us when we need them most.”

Furler said people could organise an event at work, take on an air guitar challenge, wear crazy socks or simply make a donation.

“Every contribution will help support better care and outcomes for Tasmanians,” she said.

Tassal is among the first workplaces getting behind the campaign with a Rock Your Socks fundraiser.

“Our teams will be rocking their brightest and boldest socks to raise funds for the Royal and we’d love to see other Tasmanian workplaces join us by hosting their own fundraiser,” Tassal manager of stakeholder and community engagement Courtney Quinn-McCabe said.

Entrants in the 7HOFM Air Guitar Challenge can film their best performance and share it on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #RockfortheRoyal2026.

Five finalists will compete live at the Royal Hobart Show for a prize pack from Classic Guitars & Amps.

Cripps is donating $10 from every pair of its limited-edition Cripps Ambassador Signature Socks sold and 20 cents from every six-pack of Cripps Lunch Rolls sold during October.

The foundation said every dollar raised would stay in Tasmania, helping it fund research, medical equipment, patient care, innovation and education.
