Motorists and truck drivers will have to wait a little longer for the proposed $10 million Ulverstone Highway Service Centre, which was set to be Tasmania’s largest 24-hour truck stop.
The ambitious project, which will be located on the Bass Highway near West Ulverstone, has been put on hold due to the developer having other commitments.
The development received planning approval from the Central Coast Council in June last year and would see the creation of two drive-through food outlets, including Tasmania’s first Banjo’s Bakery drive-through.
The Tasmanian Planning Commission gave the project a green light, calling the site well-suited for heavy transport as it is easily accessible and will eliminate the need for large trucks to venture through the Ulverstone town centre for fuel and services.
However, the project’s future is uncertain, with developer Tasmania Keystone Developments actively looking for another developer to take over the next stage of the project.
