A motorcycle rider caught hurtling down the Bass Highway at 159km/h on an unregistered and uninsured Harley Davidson has had his bike seized by police.

The man was pulled over by officers east of Sulphur Creek around 3:20pm on Thursday, while he was travelling at more than double the speed limit.

The rider was also disqualified from driving at the time, police said.

His bike was impounded for 28 days and he was charged with multiple offences, including excessive speeding, driving while disqualified and having an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

The man was bailed to appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court at a later date.

Inspector Adam Spencer said police would continue to patrol both highways and rural roads.

“Speeding endangers the lives of everyone using our roads,” he said.

“While most people do the right thing, our officers from our Road Policing Services are out every day targeting the minority who are doing the wrong thing and putting lives at risk.”
