Drink-driver more than twice over limit caught in Glenorchy traffic blitz
A driver allegedly more than twice the legal alcohol limit was among those caught during a police traffic operation in Hobart’s northern suburbs on Saturday morning.
Police ran the mobile operation across Glenorchy and Rosetta, targeting high-risk driving behaviours.
Police carried out 45 random drug and alcohol tests during the blitz.
Officers issued 30 speeding infringements and caught one driver who returned a positive alcohol reading of more than double the legal limit.
A disqualified driver was also identified.
Police said most motorists were compliant but they were disappointed by the small number who failed to follow the law.
“Alcohol and speed remain two of the ‘Fatal Five’ contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes on our roads,” police said.
“Operations like this are critical to removing dangerous drivers from our roads.”
“It is particularly concerning that some individuals continue to ignore the law and choose to drive under the influence, putting themselves and other road users at serious risk.”
The ‘Fatal Five’ includes speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, driver fatigue and driver distraction, including mobile phone use.
