A driver caught travelling 36km/h over the speed limit in northern Tasmania has been fined $639 on the spot.
Police intercepted the silver Holden Astra on Frankford Road at Exeter around 6:45pm on Friday.
Police said the car was detected travelling at 96km/h in a 60km/h zone.
The 27-year-old Ulverstone man allegedly behind the wheel was also hit with five demerit points.
Sergeant Ben Kromkamp said the driver’s speed put lives at risk.
“Travelling at more than 50% over the speed limit is extremely dangerous,” he said.
“High speeds puts not only the driver, but all other motorists at high risk of being involved in a serious or fatal crash.”
Kromkamp said anyone who witnesses dangerous driving can report it to police on 131 444 or call Triple-Zero (000) in an emergency.
“Never be in a rush to get home, else you may not make it home at all,” he said.
“Police will continue to conduct high visibility patrols across the state with a focus on highways and country roads to ensure our roads are safe for everyone.”
