A man has been fined for dangerous driving after dashcam footage showed him overtaking across double white lines on the Bass Highway near Elizabeth Town, in the state’s north.

The incident happened close to Gannons Hill Road, where three people were killed in a crash last Friday, police said.

Police received the footage on Tuesday, which allegedly showed a grey dual-cab ute crossing the double lines to overtake another vehicle.

Officers identified the driver as a 38-year-old Longford man and spoke with him on Wednesday night.

He was then issued an infringement notice for dangerous driving.

“Dangerous driving has consequences,” police said.

“Please drive safely so all road users return home safely each day.”

Police are encouraging people to report dangerous driving by calling 131 444 or Triple-Zero (000) in an emergency.
