A young driver has shared the terrifying incident that left their car with significant damage on the Huon Highway on Tuesday morning.
The driver says a metal Kings Canopy Tent/Bed had come off the roof of a vehicle and landed on the highway, just south of the Sandfly turn-off between Huonville and Kingston.
They told Pulse a car crashed into the bed around 5:30am, before running into it themselves just minutes later.
“After my accident, another car almost had the same accident, so me and my friends had to move the bed off the road,” the driver told Pulse.

“There were 4 people in my car, and none of us could go to work. We waited on the highway for over 2 hours in the rain for the insurance company. I’m so sad.”
Tasmania Police confirmed the incident, saying two vehicles were damaged after striking a “roof top tent” on the highway.

“The occupants of those vehicles did not receive any injuries however their cars required towing from the scene,” a spokesperson said.
Police are reminding all drivers to secure any items on their vehicle roof racks to prevent them from coming loose and creating a hazard for other road users.
Authorities did not comment as to if they’ll be tracking down the offending driver.
