A restored 1840s Georgian homestead in Evandale has been named one of Australia’s top ten best holiday homes for 2026.
Leighton House, a luxury farm stay set on 300 acres of farmland beside the South Esk River, was picked by accommodation platform Stayz as part of its national Holiday Homes of the Year list.
The property, which sleeps 12 and holds a perfect 10/10 guest rating, was selected alongside a handful of exclusive mainland offerings in Noosa in Qld, Kangaroo Valley in NSW and Margaret River in WA.
Stayz said each home on the list “was carefully chosen based on key criteria, including a stellar rating of 9.4 or above, glowing guest reviews and standout features designed for creating special moments with family and friends”.

The Evandale cottage has been lovingly restored into three luxury ensuite queen bedrooms.
A modern architectural wing has been added to the original home, featuring a bunk room with three double bunks, soaring ceilings, a 12-seat dining table, a chic kitchen and an inviting fireplace.

The new wing was built using locally sourced carbon-neutral bricks from nearby Longford, reflecting the same clay used in the area’s original Georgian homes.
The property also features an outdoor spa with a plunging hot tub and sauna positioned for stargazing, along with a fire pit, a wellness and meditation platform and a separate entertainment space with a pool table and surround sound system.
It’s placed at the start of the Tamar Valley wine route, with established and emerging cool-climate vineyards nearby.
Stayz said the 2026 list highlights “Australia’s most outstanding properties” and includes “stunning coastal escapes and striking architectural hideaways” as well as “cosy lodges in sought-after destinations”.
