After 100 days of delays, the Kingborough Council has completed the excavation stage of their project to build a new underpass under Summerleas Road in Kingston.

Work on the underpass began in early June and was initially meant to be completed within 10 weeks, but was delayed due to the relocation of non-council infrastructure.

A spokesperson for the council said the base layer for the underpass floor and ramps will be prepared next week.

“Installation of electrical and drainage conduits will occur during the base slab preparation,” they said.

“The program for the following few weeks will include pouring the base slab. After the curing period, the new box culvert sections that form the underpass will be installed.”

The duration of this work is weather dependent, the council said.

The council has previously apologised for the lengthy delays, which have pushed the project’s completion out to early December.

The project is funded by a $750,000 Greater Hobart City Deal grant and $1 million in council funds.
