Tasmania Fire Service crews from Kingston and Hobart were called to the Diamond Drive house around 8am on Tuesday.
They found “significant amounts of smoke” coming from the building and are working to find and put out the source of the fire.
Police are asking people to avoid Timber Top Drive, Diamond Drive and Cider Gum Drive while crews work.
The TFS has issued a smoke alert for the area.
“There is no threat to the general public,” the alert said.
