Firmus Technologies has signed on as a foundation major partner of the Tasmania Football Club in a six-year deal announced today.
The AI infrastructure company will also become the Devils’ official coaches and shorts partner.
Its branding will appear on coaching uniforms and the playing shorts of the club’s AFL, AFLW, VFL and VFLW teams.
The club and Firmus also plan to develop community programs across Tasmania in the coming months, with details yet to be confirmed.
Devils chief executive Brendon Gale said the length of the commitment was significant, given the club will not enter the AFL and AFLW until 2028.
“This is a significant moment for the club to have a partner committing to us for six years,” he said.
“We exist to honour the map and inspire the future. Having partners like Firmus commit to that purpose alongside us will help set us up for success.”
Gale said the club had seen “a great level of commercial confidence and support from businesses from all kinds of industries”.
He said partners recognised both the national significance of the Devils and the opportunity to make an impact in the Tasmanian community.
Firmus co-founder and co-CEO Oliver Curtis said backing the club “felt like a natural fit”.
“Tasmania gave us our start, so backing a new Tasmanian initiative that’s going to go national, just like us, felt like a natural fit,” he said.
“Backing the club and the important role they play in the community is one of the ways we are giving back and we’re looking forward to seeing that support help to make a lasting difference for communities right across the state.”
Firmus was founded in Launceston in 2019 and describes itself as one of Australia’s fastest-growing AI infrastructure companies.
The company says it “remains deeply connected to Tasmania”, with multiple sites in the state and many of the people who built the business based in the north.
The sponsorship deal comes as Firmus pursues three data centre projects in northern Tasmania.
It is building a 104-megawatt facility at St Leonards and has council approval for a 288-megawatt centre at Bell Bay.
The company has also applied to build a third facility at Wesley Vale, which Latrobe Council this week asked the state government to assess as a major project.
The Bell Bay development was approved despite significant community opposition, with hundreds of public submissions received and a petition carrying more than 5,000 signatures calling for it to be rejected.
