Designs have been unveiled for a highly anticipated new $40 million shopping centre in Kingston.
Spring Farm Village, located opposite Bunnings, will soon house the “largest Coles supermarket in the region”, medical and dental services, a cafe, bakery and takeaway food options.
Developers Tipalea Partners, who most recently launched the Glebe Hill Shopping Centre, hope to attract a diverse range of businesses to Spring Farm and provide more employment opportunities to the Kingborough region.
“Our vision was to create a vibrant, sustainable neighbourhood activity centre in Kingston, to ensure a thriving hub of community life that fosters economic independence, active transportation and a welcoming environment for residents and visitors,” CEO Scott Spanton says.
A survey undertaken with locals late last year showed there was a “strong desire” for new retailers and services that Kingston doesn’t already have, like Grill’d and Guzman Y Gomez.
The survey also found locals were concerned about ease of access and traffic issues in the area.
The architects behind the project, i2C, have designed the centre to “seamlessly” blend into the local community through the use of timber, stone, metal, and earthy and organic colours.
“We were inspired by the colours of the natural bushland to the North and West, as well as the views of Mount Wellington,” i2C Architects Project Designer Fraser Moy said.
“Incorporating the eucalypt green tones into the canopy of the structure and earthy tones to the base helps settle the development into its surroundings.”
Upper-level commercial spaces will also be constructed above the centre, offering views of kunanyi/Mount Wellington and the surrounding ranges.
Construction is hoped to begin in the coming months.
