A free community event at Hobart’s Princes Wharf 1 this Wednesday will bring together young and old tomark the launch of Tasmania’s expanded seniors month program.
The Council on the Ageing Tasmania’s sixth Generations Connect fun day will run from 10am to 1pm, with activities aimed at children, families and older Tasmanians.
The event coincides with Global Intergenerational Week, which encourages stronger connections between age groups.
Activities include games, craft stations, face painting, train rides, laser skirmish, a petting zoo, digital tech support and community stalls.

A live cooking demonstration will be hosted by Kristen Bacon.
Organisers say the event is free to ease cost-of-living pressure on families during the school holidays.

The 2026 Celebrate Ageing seniors month program will be officially launched at midday.
Previously a week-long event held in Tasmania for more than 28 years, it has been extended to a full month of activities across the state recognising the contributions of older Tasmanians.
COTA Tasmania chief executive Brigid Wilkinson said the launch was a fitting reflection of the month’s purpose.
“It reflects exactly what the month is about – valuing older people, strengthening community connections and creating opportunities for people of all ages to come together,” she said.

Residents from four local aged care homes will attend.
The launch will also preview events planned across Tasmania in October, with COTA staff available to help community groups register their own activities.
