‘Frightening’ dashcam footage shows truck nearly hit motorcyclists on Tasmanian road

Dashcam footage showing a truck swerving across double lines and nearly slamming into motorcyclists on a rural road has been described as “frightening” by Tasmania Police.

The near-misses happened on Highland Lakes Road in Apsley at 11:59am on Saturday, May 2.

No crash was reported to police at the time.

The footage only came to light after a member of the public handed in dashcam video captured from a vehicle travelling behind the truck.

It shows the truck crossing double lines multiple times before almost colliding head-on with two motorcyclists coming the other way as it rounds a bend.

“It was a very close call and could have had a tragic outcome,” Inspector Vanessa Castle said

“Police are investigating the incident and are eager to identify the vehicles involved and to speak with the driver of the heavy vehicle.”

Castle said police are yet to identify either of the two motorcyclists seen in the footage.

“The two motorcycle riders are not known at this stage and we are looking to have them come forward to assist in the investigation,” she said.
