A number of Royal Hobart Hospital staff have come down with “gastroenteritis-like symptoms”, Pulse can reveal.
The Department of Health has confirmed “infection control measures” have been rolled out in response to the “small number” of cases.
“Outbreak management strategies have been put in place, including standard infection control measures,” a Department of Health spokesperson said.
Patients arriving at the emergency department have not been affected.
“The identified staff illness has not impacted people attending the ED,” the spokesperson said.
Staff showing any gastrointestinal symptoms have been told to go home straight away.
They must stay away from work until 48 hours after their symptoms clear.
In an internal email sent to staff, seen by Pulse, workers were asked to monitor themselves for symptoms.
Measures implemented include a “terminal clean of the staff bathroom and tea room” and a move to “disposable cutlery in the tearoom”, according to the email.
