Georgia Walker re-signs with Devils, targets VFLW finals push in 2027

Georgia Walker will coach the Tasmania Devils VFLW side for a second season

Georgia Walker will coach the Tasmania Devils VFLW side for a second season, saying the team needs to find another level to compete in finals in 2027.

She joined the Devils in December 2025 from the GWS Giants, where she was head of development, head of academy and an AFLW assistant coach.

Under Walker, the Devils finished eighth in their inaugural VFLW season in 2026, two places outside the finals.

Walker said re-signing was the “easiest decision I’ve had to make”.

The club said VFLW list changes would be announced over the coming months

“I think I’ve fallen in love with Tassie and it really has felt like home,” she said.

She described the first season as a “free hit” and said “next year will be the real challenge”, with the aim of not just making the finals but competing in them.

A trial day in early November will give uncontracted players a chance to earn a spot

Head of football operations Aaron Pidgeon said Walker had shaped the program.

“Georgia has been central to setting the culture and standards of our VFLW program from day one,” Pidgeon said.

“She’s developed players, built a brand of football our supporters enjoy and laid strong foundations for the pathway into the AFLW.”

Walker said the list would be “a little bit different” next year.

Walker was previously head of academy and an AFLW assistant coach at the GWS Giants

A trial day in early November will give players who have not been offered contracts a chance to earn a spot and will be open to local talent from football and other sports. Walker said the club also hoped to recruit young players from the mainland.

Her contract runs for 12 months. She said club staff were focused on the year ahead as AFL and AFLW staff are brought in before 2028.

Pre-season starts in November and the club said list changes would be announced over the coming months.

Walker said now her contract was locked in, she could plan the pre-season and the next year.

“I think the way the girls finished this year … it’s pretty scary to what they can achieve,” she said.

“And I’m just really excited that I can be trusted officially to be able to lead the girls and our staff that way … to see what we can create next year.”
