The UK’s Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud and Australian architecture advocate Tim Ross are bringing a one-off live show to Hobart this November as part of Open House Hobart.
The pair will take to the stage at Hobart College Theatre on November 6, promising a night of architecture, design, humour and storytelling.
McCloud and Ross have built a friendship around their shared obsession with architecture and design, developing what they describe as an infectious repartee over three seasons of their podcast, Tim and Kev’s Big Design Adventure.
Now they are taking that conversation from the airwaves to a live audience in Tasmania, presented in partnership with Open House Hobart and the Australian Institute of Architects.
“When Open House Hobart asked if we could make a video to promote its upcoming program, we decided to up the ante and actually become part of it – because we love Tassie,” Ross said.
McCloud promised the show would both edifying and entertaining.
“I concurred with my Australian friend because I’ve been wanting to get back to Tasmania for years,” McCloud said.
They said the venue itself is part of the appeal.
Hobart College Theatre was originally designed by the Department of Public Works with project architects John Gott and Ben Ryan, opening in 1972.
It was restored by Cumulus Studio in 2020 and forms part of the Hobart College precinct, which has been recognised with the Australian Institute of Architects Tasmanian Chapter’s Enduring Architecture Award.
Open House Hobart is an annual program produced by the Australian Institute of Architects Tasmanian Chapter that opens some of Tasmania’s most unique buildings to the public.
