Police are on the hunt for a driver who hit a police car and fled the scene in Northern Tasmania earlier this week.
The vehicle, a silver Holden Commodore with Queensland plates, was reportedly driving dangerously through heavy traffic when it hit a stationary police car on the Bass Highway.
Police say the crash happened on the Bass Highway between Formby Road and Middle Road Devonport on Monday around 3pm.
The police car, which was displaying emergency red and blue flashing lights, was on the scene of a serious crash when it was hit by the Commodore.
Two occupants are believed to have been in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Inspector John King said the driver of the Holden Commodore has put the lives of all the emergency service workers who were in attendance at the scene in danger.
He has urged people to be aware of their surroundings and to take care when approaching a crash scene where emergency vehicles are clearly present.
“Risking the lives of others through irresponsible driving on our roads will not be tolerated,” he said.
