Hobart locals were caught off guard by a sudden hail storm on Saturday afternoon after hours of peaceful weather.
The Bureau of Meteorology had forecast a very high chance of showers, possible small hail and a chance of snow, but the intensity of the hail surprised many.

Large hailstones were seen falling across the greater Hobart area, while snow earlier settled in elevated peaks around the state.
The BOM forecast for the rest of the weekend predicts mostly cloudy conditions with a medium chance of showers on Sunday and a high chance of showers on Monday.
“The chance of a dusting of snow about elevated suburbs this morning,” the BOM said for Saturday.
“Winds southwesterly 25 to 35 km/h turning southerly 25 to 40 km/h in the middle of the day.”
