Hobart’s annual Paint The Town Red campaign is back for its 13th year, and for the first time, homes can take part as well.
With the event running alongside the Dark Mofo winter festival, businesses and now residents are being encouraged to light up in red across southern Tasmania.
Destination Southern Tasmania CEO Alex Heroys said the team is raring to go.
“Paint The Town Red runs alongside the wonderful festival of Dark Mofo, and we are as excited as we always are for the best time of the year,” he said.

“Paint the Town Red captures something special about Hobart.”
“We are a city small enough to come together in a big way, and that creates a visitor experience that is genuinely distinctive.”

Heroys said major events like Dark Mofo help drive visitors beyond Hobart, encouraging them to stay longer and explore regional Tasmania.
He said Destination Southern Tasmania’s role is to make the visitor experience around the festival as exciting and immersive as the festival itself.
“We expect more businesses to light up this year than ever with a strong prize pool for industry with packages from Aurora Energy, Tasmanian Outdoor Media, Pulse, National Trust and the Tasmanian Hospitality & Tourism Academy,” he said.
Hobart Penitentiary property manager Jim Ward said the campaign is a great chance for visitors and locals to see how businesses and events can work together.

“The Hobart Convict Penitentiary has been lighting up red for years to celebrate all things Dark Mofo,” Ward said.
Aurora Energy chief customer officer Will Barbour said the Tasmanian-owned company is backing Paint The Town Red as a major sponsor.
“This winter, we’re excited to bring the energy to one of Tasmania’s favourite events,” Barbour said.
“Aurora Energy is very pleased to support Paint The Town Red, as an iconic Winter activation and we encourage all of our fellow Tasmanians to light up red this Winter.”

Barbour said Aurora Energy will give away one month of free Power Hours to five residential customers across Tasmania who best light up their house in red.
“Through this partnership with Destination Southern Tasmanian, we’ll also be rewarding the first 200 businesses across Tasmania who register for Paint the Town Red,” he said.
Details on how to enter will be shared on Destination Southern Tasmania and Aurora Energy social media pages.
