Tasmanians will sweat through the start the last full week before Christmas, with temperatures in some areas set to soar above 30 degrees.
Severe to extreme heatwave warnings have been issued for “all states and territories except Tasmania” this weekend, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
While localised warnings are yet to be issued, they say the jump to the low 30s will be a “low-intensity” heatwave.
Hobart is forecast to reach a top of 33 degrees on Monday, while the Derwent Valley could hit 34 degrees, the West Coast 31 degrees and Launceston 30 degrees.
The north-west and east coast will avoid much of the warm weather, reaching a comparatively cooler 23 on Monday with showers expected.
According to Weatherzone, the “prolonged period of intense heat” is sweeping across the country as a hot airmass moves towards the south-east.
“This will be the hottest weather so far this year in some parts of the country,” the forecaster said.
The Tasmania Fire Service has imposed a ban on all fires and fire permits in the south from Sunday to Tuesday due to the high fire danger.
