A Howrah man has won $10,000 a month for the next two years after scratching an Instant Scratch-Its ticket he nearly gave away to a friend.

The man purchased the $5 Live The Life ticket from Glebe Hill Hub at Glebe Hill Shopping Centre on Hobart’s eastern shore.

He told an official from The Lott he was still processing the win.

“I was walking along the beach when I scratched the ticket and it was on the very first line that the top prize came up,” he said.

“I was so gobsmacked when I saw it that I didn’t even scratch the rest of the ticket.”

“I just put it in my pocket and headed straight home trying not to have a heart attack.”

The winner said he didn’t usually buy scratch tickets and only picked up the winning one after a small win the week before.

“I usually just get my lottery tickets, but last week I won $5 and as the cashier went to pay me, I just said, ‘No thanks, I’ll get that Live The Life ticket’,” he said.

“I do that now and then if I win $10 or so. I can’t believe I just happened to pick the winning one.”

The winning ticket almost ended up in someone else’s hands.

Glebe Hill Hub manager James Costin said the team was thrilled to sell the winning ticket

“Funnily enough, I nearly gifted it to a friend,” he said.

“No, seriously, I almost gave it away. I’m sure this friend would’ve given me half but isn’t that crazy?”

“Now we can use it for upcoming travels.”

Glebe Hill Hub manager James Costin said the team was thrilled about the sale.

“We haven’t sold a top prize on a Scratch-Its ticket before and we love it when our customers win a big one,” he said.

Costin said the store last sold a division one winning entry in a Tattslotto syndicate in 2023, where each of the 20 participants received roughly $270,000.
