Work to complete the rollout of real-time traffic signboards is well underway across Greater Hobart, with the state government promising installation of 5 new signs will be completed by Wednesday 15 October.
The electronic signboards give estimated travel times to key locations and warning messages about crashes and incidents impacting traffic.
Two are already operating on the Tasman Highway near Hobart Airport, with several more now being installed across greater Hobart highways
Signs have this week been installed on the Brooker Highway at Berridale, the Huon Highway at Firthside, the South Arm Highway at Howrah and the Tasman Highway at Mornington.
Works to install further signs on the Brooker Highway at Cornelian Bay and Glebe, the Tasman Highway and East Derwent Highway at Lindisfarne, the South Arm Highway at Howrah and the Southern Outlet at Kingston are expected to be completed in December.
The signs will show real-time travel times to key destinations. They can also show information about crashes, changes in weather, or unplanned incidents, so people on the road can make informed decisions about their travel.
Following the installation of the first five gantries, the electronic signboards will undergo final testing before going live.
Planning is now underway for a further six electronic signboard installations across Greater Hobart.
