JackJumpers beat Melbourne United 84-82 in Hobart

The Tasmania JackJumpers have held on to beat Melbourne United 84-82 at MyState Bank Arena, after United cut a 17-point half-time deficit to two in the final quarter.

The JackJumpers led 23-14 after the first quarter and 52-35 at the main break.

Melbourne won the third quarter 19-16 and then outscored Tasmania 28-16 in the fourth.

Will Magnay led the JackJumpers with 17 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. He made 12 of his 14 free throws.

Taran Armstrong and David Johnson each scored 14 points for Tasmania. Armstrong added six assists, while Johnson scored his points in just over 14 minutes on court.

Dakota Mathias had 13 points and nine rebounds and Ben Gold finished with nine points and eight rebounds.

Josh Bannan scored six points but had the best plus-minus on the floor at +16.

For United, Josh Oduro top-scored with 22 points from eight of 11 shooting, along with eight rebounds.

Joe Ingles had 18 points and five assists. Sam Waardenburg added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Cole Anthony scored 11 points but made three of his 14 shots from the field. Luke Travers also scored 11, with six assists.

Melbourne made 26 field goals to Tasmania’s 25 and shot at a higher percentage. The JackJumpers hit 10 three-pointers to United’s five.

Free throws also separated the sides. Tasmania made 24 of 31 attempts, while Melbourne converted 25 of 41.
