An intoxicated motorcyclist who crashed onto a north-west train line while more than six times over the legal alcohol limit has been charged.
The 27-year-old Spreyton man was unlicensed and riding an unregistered bike when he came off the road at Penguin about five weeks ago.
Police were called to Penguin Road at 3:50pm on Monday, May 18, after the motorcycle crashed onto the railway line.
Officers found the rider at the scene and took him into custody for a blood test, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.310 – more than six times the legal limit of 0.05.
Inspector Adam Spencer said the rider not only placed himself but everyone in the area at “significant risk”.
“This was a serious incident where a rider made a number of dangerous and unlawful decisions before getting on the road,” Spencer said.
“Driving while unlicensed, in an unregistered vehicle, demonstrates a complete disregard for road safety laws.”
“It’s fortunate this crash did not result in more serious consequences.”
Spencer said police would continue to hold motorists to account.
“We remind all road users that alcohol and riding or driving simply do not mix,” he said.
The man was arrested on a warrant on Tuesday and charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, driving without a licence and using an unregistered vehicle.
He was issued with a 24-month road safety disqualification notice and bailed to appear in court at a later date.
